An Laimhrig, our community hub, sits at the head of Eigg’s two piers in Galmisdale Bay. An Laimhrig means anchorage or safe haven. The community-owned building is home to local businesses including, the Isle of Eigg Shop, Galmisdale Bay Cafe and Bar, Eigg Craft Shop, and Eigg Adventures (bike & kayak hire). An Laimhrig also has office space with hot desking and meeting room facilities for anyone who needs space to work while they’re here.
The Green Shed next door houses West Coast Wild (natural products), the Eigg Guiding Company (SUP, snorkelling & guided walks), and Eigg’s Coastguard HQ.
Taigh Nighe (the Wash House) has unisex toilets, showers, a laundry and drying room. Showers cost £3 for five minutes. Washing machines cost £5 per wash. Both use contactless payments. Taigh Nighe is open 24/7, year round.
An Laimhrig, Taigh Nighe and the Green Shed are just a few of the projects delivered by our community in recent years. We are very proud to welcome you to use and enjoy them.
There’s a wide range of accommodation across the island, and income from our community-owned camping pods situated just above An Laimhrig supports the work of the Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust and its subsidiaries.
Yachts and campers are welcome.
There are two piers in Galmisdale Bay. The main, long pier, is owned by Highland Council and is used by the CalMac ferry. There is a small stone waiting room at the end where you can leave luggage. The smaller “old pier” is community owned and used by smaller passenger boats and sailing tenders. Donations towards its upkeep and to support the wider work that the Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust delivers on the island are most welcome.
Eigg has a Medical Practice located mid-way across the island. There are defibrillators in Taigh Nighe, at the primary school, and Lageorna in Cleadale. More information on these, on camping, where you can walk and other useful information can be found on our Good to Know page.
