Work on-site to create The Wash House (the name for our new toilet and shower block) began on Monday 5th April. A very shiny telehandler arrived on site and – more importantly – so did William Fisher, Compass Building and Construction’s site manager. William will be here throughout the project and will become a very familiar face on the island.
Compass are working with Eigg Construction – Eigg’s community building company – a relationship that will see some Eigg residents working on the construction.
While it’s sunny now, April was a classic mix of weather, with the team working through snow, hail, wind and rain, lightened by a short period of warm days!
Groundworks complete, the timber kit arrived and within a week the main building was up! Attention is now turning to the roof and shortly to the outfall and foundations for the treatment plant.
Eigg Primary Site Visit
On the 5th May, Eigg Primary came to visit the site to find out not just about what was being built, but also the importance of health and safety around the building site.
Eigg Primary pupils all got their own high viz jackets and William gave them the grand tour. From their blog it sounds like they really enjoyed their visit. Questions galore and all round amazement at the size of the water treatment plant. We played the game of how many Eigg Primary Pupils does it take to measure round the tank!
We’re looking forward to them checking our progress in future visits.
